Northwest Wisconsin Gem & Mineral Society

We are a social organization with diverse interests in geology/ archeology

and a desire to educate the public and encourage others to join.

We hold monthly meetings, (March thru November), third Thursday

Doors open at 6:30 PM, meeting at 7:00; at the Cameron

American Legion Hall, 604 Main St. Cameron, WI.

The next meeting will be a June 16, 2022.

We still need someone to step forward to be our President.

Please, everyone sit and think about it. It is a very gratifying job!

Remember our hike into the Blue Hills Felsenmeer on May 14th.

Roy Wickman has been nominated as 2022 Rockhound of the year!

It was accepted by both the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies

and the Midwest Federation of Mineralogical Societies.

Did you know that the Midwest Federation has
a website? It contains a lot of information.

I'm a rockhound from Racine now from Knoxville.
I spent years panning for gold around the Smokies
and digging for gemstones in TN, NC and GA.
But then I got interested in hunting fossils
out West. So far as an amateur, I have been able
to discover and preserve over 150 dinosaur bones
from 6 different species including 60 bones of
a Triceratops and 20 bones of a T-Rex. All were
discovered on private land with owner’s permission.

To help other beginners avoid all the mistakes
I made along the way, I developed a educational/training
web site at https://www.findingadinosaur.com.
This site has over 20 chapters of “How To” information
and over 500 photos of the fossils I uncovered.

Please share this web address with those members who
might like to venture out and find their own
dinosaur this summer. If I can help, contact me anytime.

Here is the Image so you can see all ofmy photos.
Feel free to drag it to your desktop to view.

Members of the Rock and Mineral Club
might be interested in our new web site;
http://wgnhs.uwex.edu/
We have made a big effort
to make all of our publications freely downloadable from
our site. You can search for publications in our database
but you might just enjoy going straight to our maps at;
http://wgnhs.uwex.edu/maps-data/maps/
We have a map of outcrops at;
http://wgnhs.uwex.edu/education-resources/citizen-science/
and I think your members might be able to help us add photos
to that list as well as suggesting new outcrops for us to
add to the map. We have added information about
Wisconsin Geology
and Water/Environment under tabs with those headings.
Finally, at the bottom of the web pages we have a link
to an email for expert answers to your questions
askageologist@uwex.edu.
